Alkaline cells are generally 1.5V (and don't last as long in a digital camera) and are best on low-drain devices like remotes. use rechargeables on high-drain devices (see FAQ).

Site says it has thermal sensors, but I saw no IR sensor - may be a different kind. my batteries get pretty hot and charge in about 4 hours on average - certain cells take shorter or longer (this is why you want a smart charger that does cells individually!). Next-to-best of their chargers. Manual is a piece of paper. The red button is a discharge cycle button for NiCD, though it is not (unfortunately) labelled. blinks red or lights go off if it's a bad battery. it also blinks red or goes solid red during a NiCD discharge process. Lights up green when a cell is done. You can also get a car adapter $4.

Alkalines give off some hydrogen gas, so be careful. hydrogen and oxygen combined are very explosive.

can charge up to 8 cells at a time. one option is an open wiring harness for you to build your own charging setup. many harnesses available for many purposes I know nothing about, probably related to RC batteries (Futaba?). This charger is oriented towards RC (such as Radio Controlled Aviation). you specify charge parameters.
